Dougherty County inmate bites jailers

Five Dougherty County jailers had to be treated for minor injuries, including bites, after bringing an unruly inmate under control.

Wednesday night Kenneth Ford was making noise in his cell and fought officers who went in to quiet him.

Officials say Ford bit two officers,  two officers suffered sprains, and one officers suffered a laceration.

Ford also spit on the officers.

The officers returned to work after being treated at the hospital.

Jail Director Colonel John Ostrander said "the only one in the incident who didn't get hurt bad enough to go to the hospital was the inmate.  Who was treated by our medical staff on site, and released to go back to housing with no restrictions."

Jail officials are still reviewing the incident and have not decided whether to file charges.
