Bainbridge State joins move to lower costs to out of staters

BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Bainbridge State College joins some of its sister institutions in lowering its tuition for students from several surrounding states to equal what Georgia residents pay.

Valdosta State, and Georgia Southwestern have already made this move.

BSC will offer in-state tuition to residents of Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina who meet the institution's admission requirements beginning in the Fall 2015 semester.

“We are pleased to be able to offer in-state tuition for students in our neighboring states,” said Dr. Richard Carvajal, Bainbridge State College President. “For over forty years, we have been serving the students of Southwest Georgia-- and now we can expand our services to other communities. We are excited that these students will have an opportunity to further their educational endeavors at Bainbridge State for an affordable cost.”

The University System of Georgia's (USG) Board of Regents approved this border state amendment to the waiver policy for Bainbridge State College and several other institutions during its March 2015 meeting.

This new program will allow institutions to provide a high quality education at an affordable price to nearby students. This opportunity means more students will be working towards a degree completion and meeting the USG's Complete College Georgia goals of creating a more educated citizenry.

Current in-state tuition for full-time students at Bainbridge State College is $1,587 a year, and out-of-state tuition for full-time students is $4,550 a year. In order to be eligible for the new in-state tuition program, a student must provide evidence that he or she has established and maintained domicile in the qualifying border state for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before the first day of classes. For more information about the new in-state tuition program, call the BSC Office of Admissions at (229) 248-2504.

Since 1973, Bainbridge State College has been providing higher education to the residents of Southwest Georgia as one of the 30 institutions in the University System of Georgia.

Bainbridge State offers various course delivery methods for associate's degrees in art, science, and applied science; certificates in business and technical fields; non-credit continuing education courses; adult education; and cooperative degree programs with Georgia Southwestern State University, Thomas University and the University of Georgia.
