VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Easter Seals of South Georgia got a generous donation Monday thanks to a contest at a Valdosta business.
Patricia Gillean was the March grand prize winner of an ongoing contest held by Turner's Furniture in Valdosta to celebrate the store's 100th anniversary.
She got a $5,000 gift certificate to the store Monday and $5,000 to give to the charity of her choice. She said she chose Easter Seals because she has a relative who is affected by autism. "It's just a very special organization that helps with autism and we wanted to help out in this way," Gillean said.
A representative from Easter Seals was at the presentation. She said the group planned to use the money for scholarships for children in a respite care facility in Lowndes County.
