Pelham Police pay tribute to officer who died

Pelham police are paying tribute to an officer who passed away Friday.

Flags in front of the police station and City Hall are at half-staff in honor of Officer John Mucci.

His patrol car is also parked in front of City Hall.

People have been leaving by flowers and cards.

Mucci was only with the Pelham Police Department for four months, but the assistant chief said it seemed like much longer.

"He was a joy to work around he brighten up the place when he come into work. The community he got along good with the people in the community," said Assistant Police Chief Rod Williams.

Mucci died after battling an illness that affected his pancreas.

He had been in and out of the hospital for a year now, medical expenses had pilled up.

His friends created a Go Fund Me page in order to help his widow and two small kids.

The hope is to raise between $15,000 to $20,000. If you would like to donate you can go to .

The Pelham Police Department is planning a memorial service tentatively for Thursday.
