TIFTON, GA (WALB) -
A new Walmart neighborhood market will bring close to 80 jobs to Tifton. Crews are demolishing the old Piggly Wiggly on Tift Avenue on the north side of town.
The new Walmart that will replace it will have a grocery store, pharmacy, deli, and a gas station. City leaders are excited about the project.
"We have tried to grow this Tift avenue headed out north of Tifton and this is in our long range plans. So this is a great location, a great idea, and we're just proud to have Walmart here," said Mayor Jamie Cater.
The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2016.
