THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -  A little friendly competition at one Thomasville elementary school brought an internationally known race to south Georgia.

Students at Cross Creek Elementary school participated in their own Alaskan Iditarod Sled race Friday morning.

Teachers incorporated math and geography skills, as each student relied on teamwork to make it to the finish line.

Third Grade Teacher Morgan Taylor said, “We live very far from Alaska, but it's really nice to show them other things that are happening in our country and around the world.”

This is the second year the school has done the race, giving kids a chance to experience a little taste of Alaska in much warmer weather.
