VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta's mayor said Friday he was planning to run for reelection.
Mayor John Gayle made the announcement Friday morning outside Valdosta City Hall. He said he was proud of what he had accomplished so far, but there were still so many things that he would like to see finished as well. Specifically, Mayor Gayle said the city was currently in the process of reviewing all of the city ordinances in an effort to make the city more inviting to prospective businesses.
As of Friday, the mayoral election was scheduled to take place in November, with the winner then being sworn in in January.
"There's just so many things that I can be thankful for. And, for that reason, I plan to run again," Mayor Gayle emphasized.
Former Valdosta Fire Chief J.D. Rice had also made it known as of Friday that he planned to run for mayor. As of Friday, his official announcement ceremony was scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4th in front of the old Lowndes County courthouse in downtown Valdosta.
