Suspect surrenders after wounded man runs to night club for help

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - A gunman trying to rob Alvin Jackson shot him last Wednesday night near the intersection of Henderson Street and Martin Luther King Drive in Sylvester. 

Demarcus "Popcorn" Wright turned himself in to authorities Sunday after noon after his mugshot was posted on WALB.com and shown on WALB-TV.

Knowing police would be at an event at Club Celebrities on South Main Street, Jackson ran there for help.Now Sylvester Police are looking for Demarcus "Popcorn" Wright. He faces several charges, including Aggravated Assault, Carrying Pistol without a license, Discharge of Firearm near Public Highway, and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. 

Jackson, who was struck by the bullet in the upper chest, got there about 2:30AM, where Sgt. Dean King of the Sylvester Police Department called EMS to come treat Jackson.

EMTs from Phoebe Worth responded and quickly arrived to examine him. One bullet was removed from Jackson's body, and the wound is not life-threatening.

The Wednesday night event is a regular thing at the club, and SPD officers are routinely assigned to be on hand for security until the club closes, which usually about 3:00 A.M.  

Sgt. King said Jackson was well and was possibly already discharged from the hospital early Thursday morning.

Wright, 23, is 5' 7” and weighs 140 lbs. His last known address is 126 Jackson Circle, Sylvester.
