VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Registration was open as of Thursday for SGMC's annual free oral cancer screening event.
SGMC Community Health Promotions Coordinator Courtney Orr said the hospital wasn't seeing an increase in oral cancer in South Georgia as of Thursday, but it had been identified as an area of concern because of the large number of tobacco users in South Georgia.
The event will be held at SGMC's Pearlman Comprehensive Cancer Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. on April 16th and it is open to kids as well as adults. "Local dentists will provide a mouth, teeth, and gum exam and they will check for any type of cancer within those areas," Orr explained.
