Albany leaders participate in National Day of Hope

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

People gathered in Albany today to pray for victims of child abuse.

To kick off National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Open Arms Incorporated hosted a National Day of Hope event at Hines Memorial Christian Episcopal Church.

Organizers say it's a time for leaders to recommit their selves to protecting children and to call attention to what's happening in the community.

"There are five children a day that are abused by somebody they know or a neighbor or a family member. And so it is important for Doughrtey County, Albany, Georgia because it is happening right here within our community," Dr. Fonda Thompson said.

Local law enforcement and other leaders attended today's events.
