Man stabbed in the chest several times in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A man was rushed to the hospital after police said a man was stabbed several times by someone that he knew.

Around 5:30 Tuesday evening, officers responded to apartment D-6 at 1712 Williams St. and found 37-year-old Sylvester Mackenzie.

They said he had been stabbed in the chest.

Valdosta Police Department Cpt. Bobbi McGraw said Mackenzie and his wife were walking home from a nearby store when a suspect started saying something to Mackenzie and his wife.

Mackenzie wasn't happy about it, so he took his wife home and then came back to confront the man.

"He and the other person have words. At that time, they get into a physical altercation. Mr. Mackenzie says that's when he is actually punctured, stabbed," Cpt. McGraw said.

He added that, as of Wednesday morning, investigators did believe they knew who the suspect was, but they would not release his name because warrants had not officially been taken out on him as of Wednesday morning.

Anyone having any information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145 or the Crime Tip Line at 229-293-3091.
