American Legion in Early Co. wants new Veterans Memorial Park

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

American Legion members in Early County hope to build a new Veterans Memorial Park on the U.S. Highway 27 Bypass.

Leaders at Post 11 have been studying the idea for a year.

They want to remember the more than 200 troops from Early County killed in service since the Revolutionary War.

"We'd like to develop a park in which we would have a memorial in which the names of those people would be listed and it would be available for people to look at and say thank you for all that they've done for our country during the wars that we had conflicts we've been involved in,” Kenneth Hall, American Post 11, Commander.

State Representative Gerald Green donated land for the park to the county.

A committee made up of legion VFW County and Blakely city officials will meet next month to discuss the design and funding.

Anyone that's wants to be involved in the project can contact Kenneth Hall at 229-723-6646.
