School improves safety after deadly accident

In wake of the tragic accident that left a Valdosta baseball player dead, the Lee County school system is making their dugouts safer.

Fencing and netting now encases both dugouts on the baseball field at Lee County High School.

The safety enhancements are a response to the accident that claimed Colton Shaw's life last week in Colquitt County. "We try to stay ahead of the curve. Now you could say we're behind the curve because it should of happened already. And that's true too. But we just wanted to be proactive and make sure that something like that doesn't happen here," said Brandon Brock, the Lee County High School Baseball Coach.

Coach Brock says several of his players expressed concerns after the tragic accident.

Crews finished installing the netting Sunday.
