THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Some residents say they are upset after a man fired a shotgun at the Wood Valley apartment complex Saturday night. Police are searching for the suspect and the gun.

"It's really just stupid and crazy that someone would actually come out here and shoot while around all these kids," said Detroski Kerbo. "It's just crazy. I mean for you to do that and there be kids out here playing and stuff like that."

One neighbor was babysitting her 7-year-old nephew and 5-year-old cousin. When the shotgun pellets came through her wall, barely missing the 7-year-old sitting on this couch.

"I mean that's why everybody was upset about this because of these children. My nephew was out here, and the girl upstairs had two kids. Any one of them could've gotten shot. Or either one of us could've gotten shot," Cherice Irvin said.

Police arrested 22 year old Lavernell Lamons, who is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. But they think 26-year-old Marcus Johnson actually pulled the trigger, and they're still searching for him.

"It's a reckless disregard to the entire community. You're not only endangering the community, you're endangering everyone's children," said Lt. Maurice Holmes.

And the incident has many neighbors ready to pack up and leave.

"I refuse to bring another child into an environment like this," said Kerbo.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Johnson call the Thomasville Police at 229-227-3249.
