Tyson lays off employee at two South Georgia plants

DAWSON, GA (WALB) - Tyson foods closes one Georgia plant and cuts work at the Dawson plant due to change in demand of certain Tyson products.

Operations will discontinue at the Buena Vista plant. All 190 employee will be laid off.

The Dawson plant will no longer have a third shift. A total of 70 employees will loose their job.

Terell County officials hope this will only be temporary.

"The hope is that  the demand for product will return. And as a result of that down the road maybe they can re-establish that third shift," said Steve Highsmith chairman of the Terrell County Chamber of Commerce.

The Buena Vista plant will close at the end of May. As far as the Dawson Location they will no longer run the third shift after April 10.
