CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock was on the scene of an Interstate wreck Monday morning, when he was approached by a man who asked to be let through the traffic back-up.
Twenty three year old Melton Dunlap of Arabi, was acting strangely, and had an aroma of marijuana. Sheriff Hancock arrested him on the spot. They searched his car, and found two ounces of marijuana and a stolen 9mm semi automatic pistol.
A set of scales were removed from Dunlap's pocket.
"Even his behavior, the way he was acting on the side of the road, was another indicator and of course the odor of marijuana, felt like this needed to be investigated further," said Sgt. Ben Bray with the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.
Dunlap's passenger, 22-year old Quantavius Morgan of Cordele, was also arrested and charged.
The men are charged with possession of marijuana, possession of firearm during commission of a crime and possession of stolen property, and are in the Crisp County Detention Center.
