THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Students with special needs from around southwest Georgia showed off their athletic skills on the field Thursday morning.
The Thomasville YMCA hosted the Special Olympics games at Thomasville High School football stadium.
Student volunteers along with Kiwanis Club members had fun playing Bocce and running races with the kids.
And for many of the students, the games are about seeing familiar faces.
Butler Mason YMCA Branch Director Greer Cox said, “They get so excited to see each other throughout the morning because of just that. This is the only time they do get to visit each other. This is a great opportunity for friendships to come back.”
And each student was a winner, receiving ribbons during an award ceremony after the games.
