VPD make 2nd arrest in Tuesday's car into house incident

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A second Valdosta man was behind bars Thursday in connection with the incident on Brookwood Pl. Tuesday, in which a silver Honda Plowed into 920 Brookwood Pl. just before 9 a.m.

In a press release late Thursday afternoon, the Valdosta Police Department said 33 year old Heyward Nash had been arrested and was accused of being the driver of the car.

Police originally arrested 20 year old Jonathan Gilbert on Tuesday believing he was the driver after witnesses at the scene identified him as the man they saw running away after the crash. As of Thursday, police had determined that Gilbert was not the driver and was actually in a different car in the area and jumped out of that car and ran away after the crash.

As of Thursday, the only charge remaining against Gilbert from the incident was giving a false name to officers.

Police said Nash came to the police department Wednesday afternoon after learning that police wanted to talk to him. After speaking with Nash, investigators arrested him and as of Thursday he was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, reckless conduct, and criminal damage to property.

Police said Tuesday that the car crashed into the home after the driver tried to run down 21 year-old Dominique Herron. Police said Herron was walking down a nearby street and got a ride from the driver, but once inside the car the driver pulled a gun on Herron. The two wrestled over the gun, it went off, Herron jumped out, and that's when police said the driver began trying to run Herron down.
