Vigil to end the violence in Americus

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - People pray for an end to violence in Americus.

Nearly 50 people gathered at Lenny's market to sing and pray for peace.

They say they're shocked by violent crime that has plagued the community in recent months

" We done this today to help bring unity back into our community to bring that oneness because overall we have a good community and we're trying to restore what we already have," said Melody Lewis, Organizer.

Organizers plan to hold a community prayer vigil once a month.

They're also organizing a Community Clean up Day on April 25th starting at 9 a.m, at City Hall.
