Valdosta State blazing to the top seed

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Since losing to the defending National Champion Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M, the Valdosta State Lady Blazers have been stuck in the 2 spot of the NCAA Division II rankings.

But, after being stuck in the champs shadow, finally, the Blazers are back at number one.

The Lady Blazers started Wednesday at 29 and 2, with a sparkling 15-1 conference record to lead the Gulf South.

On the other hand, Lady Buffs are 23 and 4, having dropped two games in the past two weeks.

So, the Blazers reclaimed the number 1 spot in the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association Division II Softball rankings for the first time since March 6th, 2013.

The Blazers first defense of the spot came in a double header against the Lander Bearcats, in South Carolina.

The Blazers took the first game 12-0 and the second game 13-0, bettering their record to 31-2.
