ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A witness talks about helping a man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night in east Albany. Albany Police are searching for a hit and run driver in that crash, and they still have a lot of questions about what happened.
27-year-old Lawrence Stephens is in fair condition at Phoebe Putney Hospital being treated for a severe leg injury.
Police say he was riding a dirt bike near the intersection of East Residence Avenue and North Carroll Street about seven o'clock when he was hit by a four-door Pontiac which left the scene. Police say someone also took off with the bike.
Cynthia Butler came up on the scene right after the crash and tried to comfort Stephens until paramedics arrived.
"I did the best I could. I did it for the community. We're a community. We're supposed to stick together, and that's basically all we talk about around here is being a community and sticking together. Just talked to him and kept him calm until the ambulance got here."
Police say other witnesses aren't cooperating, so they're not sure exactly what happened. If you have any information on the hit and run driver, call Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS.
