LAKE PARK, GA (WALB) - The city of Lake Park is trying to help educate seniors about gun safety.
The city's police chief and a retired Army vet are offering free gun safety classes to seniors. The first class was held on Saturday, March 21st and the police chief said eight or nine people showed up.
He said the classes focus on everything from how to properly hold a gun to when it is legal to use one. He decided to start the classes after a senior citizen asked him questions about gun safety.
"The law has changed for carrying a firearm, so they're unsure. Basically, talking to this citizen they said, 'hey, what can you do' and we thought of the idea to put together a gun safety course for the senior citizens," explained Lake Park Police Chief James Breletic.
The next class had not been scheduled as of Wednesday.
