COOK CO., GA (WALB) - Only WALB was there Wednesday afternoon when a high speed chase, which police say reached speeds in excess of 125 mph, ended on I-75 in Cook County.
The chase ended around 12:30 at the 39 mile marker in the southbound lanes.
20 year-old Ricky lamar Thomas, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., 20 year-old De-Andre Rashad Walker, of Hollywood, Fl., and 23 year-old Keyshawn Donta Wilson, of Hollywood, Fl. were in the car and were arrested.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the three were accused of breaking into the Shell station at exit 146 on I-75 in Warner Robins around 3 a.m. Wednesday and stealing lottery tickets. About 20 minutes later, police said they broke into the Texaco station at exit 135 on I-75 and stole more lottery tickets.
Investigators tracked them to a hotel in Unandilla after learning that one of the stolen lottery tickets had been cashed at the Flash Foods there at exit 121 on I-75. But as officers were moving in around 10:30 a.m., the men jumped into their car, which police said was a rental, and took off.
"[Officers] were settin' up, gettin' ready to converge on the room when the subjects bailed out of the room, jumped in the car, and attempted to run over two of the detectives that were there at the scene," said Perry, GA, Police Department Cpt. Heath Dykes.
No one was hurt in the chase. Cpt. Dykes added that the men were throwing some of the stolen items out the window as they barreled down I-75.
The men were being held in Houston County as of Wednesday afternoon and were facing multiple charges. One of the men also had warrants against him from Broward County, Florida.
