ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County Convenience store clerk was the victim of a scam.
Crooks scammed one thousand dollars from the clerk over the phone at work.
The clerk at the Flash Foods at US 19 and Holly Drive received a phone call about 1:30 in the morning Monday from someone claiming to be from their home office.
The person ordered her to put one thousand dollars on a pay pal card, and give them the identification numbers, which allowed them to withdraw the cash.
"These people gave her the names of people in corporate, that she knew to be in corporate. But these names were also on the website. And she believed it," said Sgt. Tamiko Whitlock of Dougherty County Police
Dougherty County Police are investigating the scam call. Investigators say the clerk will be forced to repay the money.
