ANDERSONVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Andersonville National Historic Site continues to commemorate its 150th anniversary.
The prison at the park was open for 14 months in 1864 and 1865.
The site is hosting anniversary events each month that will include a funeral for the 13,000 POW's who died at Andersonville.
"That's going to be an amazing opportunity to learn not only about Civil War History but local history and kind of the role and impact of the Civil War on the counties here and the whole state of Georgia," said Stephanie Steinhorst, Acting Chief of Interpretation and Education.
The funeral events will be September 18th through 20th and will include a candlelight memorial with 13,000 candles around the prison site.
