Truck collides with school bus

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - A virtual army of authorities responded to the collision between a school bus and a truck in Ben Hill County Monday.

Ben Hill County Sheriff Bobby McLemore says nine students, of the forty or so who were aboard, were taken to Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, but doesn't believe any of the injuries are life threatening.

According to the state patrol report, Jacqueline Esteban, 10, was taken to a Macon hospital. The reports says she had injuries to one leg, her head and face.

A semi truck, driven by 47-year-old Frederick Woods, from Decatur, ran into the back of a school bus driven by Candace Dykes that was stopped to unload students, and the sheriff says the bus lights were still flashing. Woods did not appear to be injured.

The GSP is investigating, and says Woods will face a number of charges, including failure to stop for a school bus.

The wreck happened this afternoon around 3:30 on US 129 about 2.5 miles north of Fitzgerald city limits.
