ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County school police are investigating after a child was hospitalized from drinking alcohol.
School police were notified Thursday night that a child from Radium Springs Middle School was taken to the hospital after his grandmother discovered he was acting strangely.
Chief Troy Conley said the boy, possibly 10 years old, was transferred to a Macon critical care facility.
Emergency workers said alcohol intoxication can be very serious, especially in children.
"A lot of people don't really think that children and alcohol is a big deal, but it can be because their body reacts so much differently to it," said Dougherty County EMS Director Greg Rowe.
School Police are investigating, although there's no evidence the boy was drinking at school.
But they are reviewing school bus video as a precaution.
