Lowndes deputy chase ends in arrests

Two men that officials said were driving dangerously were behind bars in Lowndes County Friday afternoon, thanks to an alert driver.

30 year old Fredrick Thomas Howard, of Fort Valley, GA and 42 year old Jerry Jabbar Reynolds, of Warner Robbins, GA were arrested near the 7 mile marker on I-75 around 3 a.m. Friday.

A driver heading South on I-75 noticed the Mercedes the men were traveling in was swerving all over the road and preventing other cars from getting passed them.

Deputies used stop sticks to blow out the tires after the car refused to stop when they tried to pull it over near the 16 mile marker.

"The driver was intoxicated as was the passenger," said Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Lt. Stryde Jones. "This is just a great example of a citizen reporting something they saw that potentially led to stopping what could've been a very, very tragic accident."

As of Friday afternoon, Howard was facing eight different charges. Reynolds was charged with a seat belt violation and open container violation. Investigators were still not sure Friday afternoon where they were going.

Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine encouraged citizens to report such activity by calling 911. Non emergency events can be reported to the Sheriff's Office at (229) 671-2950. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling (229) 671-2985 or online at www.lowndessheriff.com
