VPD reaching out to the city's youth

Sabrina Smith Sabrina Smith
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta Police Department was preparing Thursday to reach out to the city's youth in hopes of cutting down on juvenile delinquency.

From 6-8 p.m. each night during the week of March 23rd, officers and detectives plan to meet with kids at different locations throughout the city to talk about things such as resolving conflicts without violence and peer accountability.

The event's coordinator, Det. Sabrina Smith, said with prom and graduation coming up, this is a perfect time to have this conversation.

"We'll be talkin' about criminal street gang activity, just a bunch of the laws that will affect them," Det. Smith explained. "What we're tryin' to do is take a proactive approach in makin' a difference in the lives of our youth."

The meeting locations are:

Monday, March 23rd - The open field at Hudson Dockett

Tuesday, March 24th - The Big Lots parking lot at Five Points

Wednesday, March 25th - The open field at  the Valdosta Lowndes Parks and Rec Authority on N. Forrest St.

Thursday, March 26th - The Big Lots parking lot at Five Points

Friday, March 27th - The soccer field at Valotton Dr. and Troup St. behind Mr. B's IGA
