Albany Tech partners with Albany State University to host its first mock trial competition in their new courtroom simulation lab.

Students from Kennesaw State University and the University of Florida competed against each other in a wrongful death lawsuit involving two 11-year-old children playing with a gun. Students have been preparing for the case since August. Pataula Circuit Superior Court Judge Joe Bishop was a volunteer judge for the trial.

"It helps them to think on their feet, it helps them to know and understand the application of the law,” said Judge Joe Bishop, Pataula Circuit Superior Court Judge.

"You can't beat the value of an official scrimmage like this where you've got actual judges and attorneys coaching the children where they are facing objection battles that they've not heard before it's invaluable to their skill,” said Misty Gann, Assistant Mock Trial coach at Kennesaw State University.

The new simulation lab includes furnishings from a courtroom in the old federal courthouse on Broad Avenue.
