VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta High School rolled out the red carpet Friday morning to welcome back former student and current contestant on NBC's "The Voice", Bay Brooks.
"I just wanted to come here and talk to my friends and just hang out and just encourage hope and kindness and just to be there for each other," Brooks said.
Brooks talked to the students about how struggling to cope with the death of a close family member helped spark her passion for music, which ultimately led her to move from Valdosta to Nashville, Tennessee and pursue a career in music.
She said she was overwhelmed by the number of people that showed up to welcome her back. "I had no idea that so many people that I hadn't gotten the opportunity to meet yet would be supporting me and I'm just so thankful," Brooks admitted.
Brooks also sang for the students, though media was not allowed to record any audio of her singing. She encouraged others going through a hard time in their life like she did to never give up hope.
"Hold on to hope," Brooks emphasized. "Just know that there's a plan for each of our lives."
As of Friday, she was hoping she could bring another title to title town. "Valdosta's already title town," Brooks pointed out, "so if I could bring one more title back here, that'd be incredible."
But she said no matter how far she makes it on the show, it's only the beginning for her.
