ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Georgia is making sure children are prepared for Kindergarten this fall.
Bright From The Start is encouraging parents enroll their children in their six-week Summer Transition Program for rising kindergartners.
The program is for 4-year-olds who missed pre-k or need extra help.
Applications are available statewide, but priority will be given to targeted counties, including Dougherty County.
"Bright from the Start helps fund people from lower income levels. And so Dougherty County qualifies by being a higher percentage of lower income students," said R.D. Harter with Dougherty County Schools. "We're 100 percent free and reduced lunch system based on our poverty level within our school system."
Several other counties in South Georgia are also targeted counties.
