VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Work continued Tuesday to add a sign and plants to one of Valdosta's busiest gateways.
Tuseady, city workers continued working on a new concrete sign at the city limit on North Valdosta Road. The workers also continued to place trees and bushes along both sides of the road there.
The money for the project comes from a $19,500 GDOT grant that the city was awarded in the Fall of 2014. "These gateways are really important to us because what they do is say, 'we welcome you to our beautiful city and we want you to come back again,'" said Valdosta's Public Information Officer Semantha Matthews. "And not only that, it gives citizens a sense of pride when they see that the city is beautiful. It makes them glad to be here as well."
As of Tuesday, the work was expected to be completed by the end of March. The city had nine other gateways as of Tuesday that they planned to do similar work on in the future.
