Americus city council working on plan with police chief

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Americus city council plans to purchase three new police cars soon. The police chief held a special meeting with commissioners this week to address certain needs.

He said cars and personnel are what the department needs most. Several patrol cars have more than 100,000 miles, and the chief said salaries are too low.

The council is working on his requests.

"The point is, they're working on it. They've directed a study be done and we'll find out the answer is later on down the road," said Chief Brian Carney.

Chief Carney said another meeting will be held to discuss other ways to bring the department up to date.
