ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new device is helping Dougherty County EMTs and paramedics save lives.
The Lucas device performs consistent chest compressions on a patient in cardiac arrest for as long as 45-minutes without stopping which paramedics can't do.
"Once you start chest compressions within three to five minutes you need a break, you got to switch with somebody else so that's where you need two in the back of the truck, with this device its battery operated and rechargeable," said Sam Allen, Assistant EMS Director.
The county's first device hit the streets about a week ago.
EMS officials hope to purchase more down the road.
