ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
In celebration of National School Lunches week, a new study shows kids are eating healthier at school, and throwing less away.
First Lady Michelle Obama started the ball rolling with Let's Move. School lunches are full of color and kids are making better choices from different types of fruits, vegetables and grains.
"Kids have the option of putting healthy items on their plate. They have the right to choose and they are choosing to make healthy selections. When kids eat healthy they thrive," said Dougherty Co. Nutrition Director Blaine Allen.
It is proven that children do better socially and academically when they eat a healthy meal.
