Man who inspired community organization in Cordele is recovering

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

The wife of the Cordele businessman whose beating sparked the creation of a the community organization My Brother's Keeper,My Sister's Keeper Cordele  said his recovery has been difficult.

Seventy year old Eugene Dennard was treated at Phoebe Sumter just last week for a urinary tract infection.

He's currently at a rehab center in Plains.

Dennard suffered severe brain and lung damage in the October attack.

"He has no use of his body. He can't turn over he can't sit up. He can't even lift his head. The only thing he does is he talks and he can use his left arm,” Dora Dennard.

Dora Dennard said  their medical bills are in the thousands of dollars.

Last month, Willie Telfair who used to work for Mr. Dennard pled guility to the assault and was sentenced to two consecutive 20-year prison terms.
