ABBEVILLE, GA (WALB) - It may sound odd to some, but students will soon go back to a 5-day school week in Wilcox County, after attending classes just 4 days a week for the last 5 years.
The school system expects to make the change in the next school year.
Educators originally changed the routine to save money, and gave students off on Mondays. But Superintendent Steve Smith said the schedule's increased testing days take away from instructional time.
"There's just more and more burden on testing. We felt like we didn't have a choice that because of the additional burden, our students needed to have more instructional days," said Smith.
The system also plans to build a new Kindergarten through 12th grade school.
