ABBEVILLE, GA (WALB) - There are four open armed robbery cases in Wilcox County, and investigators say they could be related to robberies in Crisp County. One of those happened at the intersection of Highway 112 and Highway 233 Sunday night.
Abbeville Police Chief John Hendley says recent armed robberies should not worry people in Wilcox county. "This place is safe…"
Chief Hendley watched a masked man shove a gun in the face of a gas station attendant, on surveillance video. The December robbery remains unsolved. The city and gas station are offering a $1000 reward to catch the robber.
"What I wish for the public if they would is to know that you can give information and remain anonymous," Hendley said.
Chief Hendley says public participation is key in figuring out who robbed the store. "We encourage the public if they know anything to come forward. Mr Patel and his wife are good folks, good business people. They have a good business"
This robbery is the first of four recent crimes.
About ten miles away in Rochelle, their police department is investigating two armed robberies of their own. One at a pool hall, and the other of a gas station clerk when he got home from work.
"We seem to feel that some of them in rochelle could be connected to some guys in Abbeville," Hendley said.
The Wilcox county sheriff's office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at this intersection Sunday night. A car stopped and was immediately held up by two masked men. All three agencies are working together.
"Investigator Steve Mauldin has been working closely with me on mine as well as I'm working with him. Chief Mickey Barfield, Rochelle PD, we've been passing information back and forth with each other."
And they know that's the best way to solve these crimes.
