SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - The Sylvester Police Department says the man suspected in a Christmas sexual assault is behind bars, and faces a long list of charges.
Sgt. J. C. Shiver Criminal Investigations Division said in a release that on Christmas morning, officers went to a residence on Carter Road to investigate a burglary and sexual assault on a 70 year old female victim.
Two weeks later, SPD arrested 31-year-old Timothy Leon Sanford on unrelated charges.
Today, detectives received additional evidence in Christmas Day crime, and now Sanford being charged with: Rape, Home Invasion, Burglary, Possession of Tools For The Commission of the Crime, Aggravated Sodomy, Aggravated Sexual Battery, Sexual Battery, False Imprisonment, Kidnapping, and Aggravated Assault.
Authorities say they were waiting on evidence from the GBI crime lab, which took longer than they expected.
"We had to do a lot of persuading and a lot of negotiating with the crime lab to go ahead and put this on our top priority list," said Lt. Kenneth Washington of the Sylvester Police Department
Sanford has been in the Worth County Jail since January 7.
