Update: Sumter Co. fire suspicious, investigating as double homicide

SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) - The two victims who died in a house fire in Sumter County Friday night have been identified. Sheriff Pete Smith said Bonnie Freeman, 54, and Dallas Freeman, 33. The mother and son died after a blaze broke out at 780 R.W. Jones Road. 

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office and the GBI continue to investigate the fire and currently treating the case as a double-homicide.

Investigators also say they have recovered the vehicle they were looking the Friday night. A 2008 burgundy Toyota Tundra was found abandoned in Americus early Saturday morning, the pick up truck belonged to Dallas Freeman. 

Officials are asking anyone who was in the Joyce Meyers Park area Friday between the hours of 5 and 6 P.M. and had seen any suspicious activity to contact Captain Ralph Stuart (229) 938-6465 or the Sumter Co. Sheriff's Office (229) 924-4094.

A reward is being offered for an arrest and conviction.
