BERRIEN CO., GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of rockets were expected to fill the sky in Berrien County over the weekend.

The 2nd annual "Georgia Rockets In The Sky" event blasted off in Berrien County Friday.

Rocket enthusiasts and students in the Berrien County Rocket Club were going to be launching various types of model rockets from a field off of Highway 125 North.

Mark DiBois, the event's coordinator and a Science teacher at Berrien County High School, said the event gives participants a chance to compete against each other for prizes while also allowing them to learn more about science technology, engineering, and math.

"It was a vision of mine to bring a really high quality, high powered rocket launch to Berrien County because I knew we had plenty of real estate to do it in," said DiBois.

The event was scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
