Sylvester store clerks held up at gunpoint

Lt. Ken Washington Lt. Ken Washington
SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - The Sylvester Police Department is working to see if a recent armed robbery at the E-Z Corner is connected to others crimes in the city. Luckily, no one was injured in the robbery Wednesday night.

Police are still on the lookout for the two men responsible. They were actually able to get away with $500 without ever going into the store.

This 24 hour E-Z Corner gas station on US 82 is the most recent target of violent robbers; this time happening right during shift change.

"The two individuals that was robbed last night happened to be getting off from work, and getting into the vehicle to go home," said Lt. Kenneth Washington with the Sylvester PD.

A man ran up from behind the building and shoved a shotgun in the face of one employee, before grabbing her purse.

"Found out there was nothing in the item that she had. Also the other guy came from around the side of the truck, the other side, and he was immediately robbed at gunpoint," said Lt. Washington.

That clerk had several hundred dollars in cash, but the robbers weren't done. "This time the individual that was working in the store came outside of the store, didn't know what was going on. He grabbed a bat to go outside to see what was going on after he heard the screams, and then at that point he was robbed at gunpoint," said Lt. Washington.

The two masked men then took off across the street with two wallets, never entering the store. The weapons and descriptions are similar to the armed robbery at a Subway in town from late January, but no connection has been made.

Lt. Washington urges anyone with information about either robbery to call the Sylvester police.

The robbers got over $400 in the holdup.
