LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - After a brief delay an important Lee County road project is about to get going.
Commissioners hope to pick a company to handle the Forrester Parkway Extension last month, but initial bids came back higher than expected.
They made adjustments to the plan to save about $200,000 and are now ready to move forward.
"Next week, we'll also open bids on phase one of Forester. I anticipate the board to take action on phase one of Forester our first meeting of March," said Lee County commission Chairman Rick Muggridge.
The project will connect Highways 19 and 82. Leaders say the new east-west route across the county will ease traffic congestion, improve emergency response time, and lead to commercial development.
