GRADY COUNTY, GA (WALB) - A woman in Grady county showed her appreciation for the hard work and dedication of volunteer firefighters.

Jane Connell secured a grant from the Monsanto fund, a charitable arm of the Monsanto Company that encourages farmers and growers to nominate non-profit organizations they believe deserve recognition.

She nominated the Pine Level Fire Station after she witnessed their crucial role in responding to a fatal accident last summer.

"I was surprised I was chosen. When she asked me, I thought of them and I knew they are a great help to our community. And I just wanted to do something special for them," said Connell.

The Monsanto fund presented the department with a $2,500 check that volunteers will use to buy new equipment.
