VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Workers began deconstructing the dome of the water tower at the corner of South Briggs Street and West Savannah Avenue on Wednesday.
The 500,000 gallon water tower is more than 50 years old and has been out of service since 2013 when a two-million gallon tower was installed on South Fry Street.
"They'll be working' up there at the top of the tower, starting' at the top, and taking' it apart piece by piece and lowering' it by crane. They'll be using' a torch to cut it apart and then lower it down according' to OSHA standards," said David Frost, Valdosta Assistant Utilities Director.
The work is expected to be completed within two days, weather permitting.
