TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Crews from South Georgia are headed north to assist with icy roads. DOT crews are making their third trip to the Atlanta area this year.
It's part of a proactive plan after poor preparation before a winter storm last January shut down highways throughout Atlanta.
"We've sent 68 people; we have 11 dump trucks with snow plows and salt spreaders attached, and we sent 10 pickup trucks with fuel tanks," said GDOT spokeswoman Nita Birmingham.
Crews are expected back home tomorrow, but no timetable has been set.
