An update Tuesday on a former Albany Police officer, now a Habersham County deputy, shot in an ambush.
Deputy Bill Zigan was shot twice in the shoulder and possibly grazed in the face by bullets fired by former Habersham County deputy Anthony Giaquinta.
Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul went to church with Zigan when he lived in Albany.
"I was told last night that he is recovering," said Sproul. "He's coming along well. He had suffered they said either 2 or 3 gunshot wounds. And he is very fortunate to be here today."
Giaquinta recently returned from work in Afghanistan.
Investigators say he shot and killed his ex-wife and her boyfriend then was killed in a shootout with deputies.
