DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Police have Jeffrey Ranew in custody as of 2:30 P.M. Monday. Ranew is the Lee County man who left the scene of an accident on Lover's Lane Sunday morning.

Ranew ran off the road and hit a power pole and a fire hydrant, where his vehicle caught fire.  Albany Firefighters were called in to put out the flames.

Dougherty County Police said Ranew was wanted by the Lee County Sheriff's Office for bond revocation, and that he was seen leaving the accident.

Power was knocked out to at least two homes in the area. Dougherty County police say they aren't sure if speeding was a factor in the crash, but Creech says he is concerned with speeding in the area.

Georgia Power and other agencies were called in to replace the power pole.

"Once the fire was extinguished we notified Water, Gas and Light of the damaged hydrant," said Battalion Chief Kelly Harcrowe.

Ranew is charged with failure to maintain lane and leaving the scene of an accident.
