Guard arrested for getting alcohol for prisoners

DAWSON, GA (WALB) - Decedric B. Powell, 27, a correctional guard in Dawson, was arrested for supplying beer for inmates.

The guard at Terrell County Correctional Institute, stopped at ABC package store in Dawson on Friday and bought beer and liquor for three inmates on his detail. 

Authorities say Powell had inmates in the work vehicle when he went to the store and was captured on camera buying the alcohol.

He is charged with Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, a felony, and with three felony counts of procuring and furnishing a state inmate with an intoxicant.

His total bond was set at $40,000.00, which is $10,000 on each count, and he was terminated from his position.
